Senior for­ward Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arling­ton) tal­lied a goal and an assist as sixth-ranked Ohio Wes­leyan stormed back from a 2–0 half­time deficit to defeat eighth-ranked Ohio North­ern 3–2 in a third-round game of the NCAA Divi­sion III tour­na­ment on Fri­day at Roy Rike Field.

Soccer: Bishop men advance in D-III tournament

Senior mid­fielder Dylan Stone (Eas­ton, Conn./Barlow) scored in the 38th minute to lift sixth-ranked Ohio Wes­leyan over 15th-ranked Wash­ing­ton (Mo.) 1–0 in a second-round game of the NCAA Divi­sion III tour­na­ment on Sun­day at Roy Rike Field.

It wasn’t the first trip to a Divi­sion I regional foot­ball quar­ter­fi­nal for Orange coach Brian Cross, but the same couldn’t be said for his team, and the Pio­neers found the road in Divi­sion I can be plenty rough.Orange’s first ven­ture into the big school divi­sion had its moments, but the Hilliard David­son Wild­cats had many more and knocked the Pio­neers out of the play­offs with a 22–0 vic­tory Sat­ur­day night at the Hilliard David­son Sports Complex.

Martin becomes 2nd to reach 600-win mark

Senior for­ward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal to high­light a 5-goal, second-half erup­tion that lifted sixth-ranked Ohio Wes­leyan over Deni­son 5–1 in North Coast Ath­letic Con­fer­ence play on Sat­ur­day in Granville.

Tues­day marked the end of the road for a slew of local stand­outs, as the hand­ful of teams and indi­vid­u­als in action all failed to make it out of the dis­trict rung of com­pe­ti­tion — set­backs end­ing solid sea­sons in each instance.

Powell police agree to 18-month wage freeze

Pow­ell City Coun­cil has approved 3-year con­tracts for union­ized police offi­cers and sergeants. Pow­ell coun­cil mem­bers unan­i­mously approved both con­tracts Tues­day night. Under the agree­ment, the city’s 12 union­ized police offi­cers will earn annual salaries between $47,917 to $69,272. Powell’s police sergeants will make $78,778 through July 2011, then $80,558 in July 2012 and $82,529 in July 2013. The con­tracts include an 18-month wage freeze, then a 1-percent wage increase in Jan­u­ary 2012 and July 2012 and a 2-percent increase in July 2013.

Tiberi: Losing childhood home from congressional district ‘disappointing’

If a GOP con­gres­sional redis­trict­ing plan goes through as expected, Pat Tiberi’s dis­trict should become safer for his future re-election. But as an inter­est­ing by-product, Tiberi will also no longer rep­re­sent the neigh­bor­hood where he grew up.
