At 87, Weight Watchers founder keeps pounds off

PARKLAND, Fla. — Jean Nidetch ambles down the hall­way of the senior com­mu­nity where she lives, two cups of Coca-Cola tee­ter­ing on her walker. In her one-bedroom apart­ment, there are Klondike bars in the freezer and, in the fridge, Bai­leys Irish Cream beside Chi­nese take-out. If these don’t seem the trap­pings of the woman who founded Weight Watch­ers, don’t be alarmed. At 87, Nidetch has earned some allowances. Besides, she says, she doesn’t touch most of the stuff anyway.

Focus on Abilities to perform USO inspired variety show

The Delaware County Board of Devel­op­men­tal Dis­abil­i­ties is sched­uled to per­form a 1940s-esque USO vari­ety show at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Delaware Chris­t­ian Church. The show, “Sen­ti­men­tal Jour­ney,” will fea­ture 60 per­form­ers, the most ever, said show and com­mu­ni­ca­tion direc­tor for DCBDD Sue Mun­day. “Sen­ti­men­tal Jour­ney” harkens back to USO shows put on by the likes of Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis and the Andrew Sis­ters dur­ing the World War II era.

Miss Ohio 1996 to return to Delaware for hometown performance

Forty-five years after she per­formed here on the road to being named Miss Ohio 1966, Sharon Phillian Lom­bardi will return to her home­town this week­end to sing the song that made her famous.
