VIENNA — Satel­lite images of an Iran­ian mil­i­tary facil­ity appear to show trucks and earth-moving vehi­cles at the site, indi­cat­ing an attempted cleanup of radioac­tive traces pos­si­bly left by tests of a nuclear-weapon trig­ger, diplo­mats told The Asso­ci­ated Press on Wednesday.

North Korea says it will halt nuclear activities

WASHINGTON — North Korea raised hopes Wednes­day for a major eas­ing in nuclear ten­sions under its youth­ful new leader, agree­ing to sus­pend ura­nium enrich­ment at a major facil­ity and refrain from mis­sile and nuclear tests in exchange for a moun­tain of crit­i­cally needed U.S. food aid.

Activist group: 144 dead across Syria

BEIRUT — A Syr­ian activist group reported Mon­day that 144 peo­ple have been killed across the coun­try, scores of them in the embat­tled oppo­si­tion strong­hold of Homs by secu­rity forces as they tried to flee. A team from the Syr­ian arm of the Red Cross deliv­ered aid to one of the city’s most dan­ger­ous neigh­bor­hoods after days of try­ing to reach the area.

Iran Oil Ministry: Exports cut to Britain, France

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran has halted oil ship­ments to Britain and France, the Oil Min­istry said Sun­day, in an appar­ent pre-emptive blow against the Euro­pean Union after the bloc imposed sanc­tions on Iran’s cru­cial fuel exports.

Blast kills Iran nuclear expert amid ‘covert war’

TEHRAN, Iran — It seemed a clock­work killing: Motor­cy­cle rid­ers flashed by and attached a mag­netic bomb onto a car car­ry­ing a nuclear sci­en­tist work­ing at Iran’s main ura­nium enrich­ment facil­ity. By the time the blast tore apart the sil­ver Peu­geot, the bike was blocks away, weav­ing through Tehran traf­fic after what Iran calls the lat­est strike in an esca­lat­ing covert war.

U.S. to EU: Do as I say, not as I do

In what now seems to be a weekly rit­ual, U.S. finan­cial mar­kets fluc­tu­ated through­out the past week based upon antic­i­pated future eco­nomic and polit­i­cal devel­op­ments. But as has become more and more com­mon, it is not the poten­tial out­look for our coun­try that has mem­o­rized finan­cial mar­ket par­tic­i­pants, but rather that of the Euro­pean Union’s 27 coun­try con­fed­er­a­tion, or even more specif­i­cally, the euro-zone’s 17 mem­ber nations that uti­lize a com­mon cur­rency, the euro.
