ATLANTA — The woman who says she had a long-running extramarital affair with Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is a single mother and Atlanta-area businesswoman who has faced repeated financial trouble and once lost a lawsuit accusing her of spreading damaging lies about an ex-business partner.

Melanie Leneghan ousted sitting Liberty Township trustee Bob Mann Tuesday. Mann is also the Delaware County Republican party chairman. Leneghan, 46, was excited by the election results.
Two longtime Liberty Township residents, including the current incumbent, are vying for the open seat on the board of trustees in the Nov. 8 election.
