Army opens jobs in combat battalions to women

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Female sol­diers this week are mov­ing into new jobs in once all-male units as the Army breaks down for­mal bar­ri­ers in recog­ni­tion of what has already hap­pened in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Twin car bombs in Syrian capital kill dozens

DAMASCUS, Syria — Twin sui­cide car bombs exploded out­side a mil­i­tary intel­li­gence build­ing and killed 55 peo­ple Thurs­day, toss­ing man­gled bod­ies in the street in the dead­liest attack against a regime tar­get since the Syr­ian upris­ing began 14 months ago.

Delaware career center student killed in crash

Delaware Area Career Cen­ter stu­dent Ken­neth Ruzika was killed Tues­day in a crash near Mill Run Cross­ing. Police and para­medics arrived on the scene shortly before 11 a.m., Delaware City Police Capt. Bruce Pijanowski said. Ruzika, who was a pas­sen­ger in the car, was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

How bet­ter to get set­tlers to move into uncharted and untamed lands than to promise them the sus­tain­abil­ity and wealth that comes from the own­er­ship of land? Give them the land for free on the promise that they will go and set­tle that land, turn­ing it from wilder­ness to use­able farm­land, tim­ber­land or pas­ture. The pol­icy worked for Amer­ica, it worked for the Span­ish in Florida and it worked for Mex­ico in parts of what is now the Amer­i­can Southwest.

A Delaware City man was arrested after he allegedly forced his way into an occu­pied van, crashed it into a mobile home, broke into a nearby trailer, stole a parked vehi­cle, then fled to a home about a half-mile away.
