Thanks to a partnership between the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Central Ohio Symphony, dozens of older folks that may not have been able to attend the organization’s holiday concert in years past will now be able to do so.

This past Saturday night found me in one of my favorite places — Gray Chapel — on the evening of a Central Ohio Symphony concert. On the long list of things I love about my adopted hometown of Delaware, the symphony is right up at the top. In particular, I was looking forward to the performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, which would close the performance, and is one of my favorite pieces of music.

If Delaware City Council approves leasing the property to Second Ward Community Initiative (SWCI) a rarely used building could soon take on a different community function.

As it has done every year for the last quarter of a century, the Central Ohio Symphony will once again take the outdoor stage for a holiday concert on at 7:30 p.m. July 4. This year’s concert under the direction of Conductor Jaime Morales-Matos will be held on the Phillips Glen lawn located behind Gray Chapel on the Sandusky Street main campus of Ohio Wesleyan University just one block south of downtown Delaware.
Delaware parade participants can show residents how they celebrate the Fourth of July at this year’s Delaware County Farm Bureau-sponsored parade, set for 3 p.m. July 4.

Delaware business leaders and organizations have proven once again that in a tough economy, generosity runs deeper, not drier. Led by the Byers Auto Group, Meijer and Dominion Homes, the community once again has stepped forward to make sure the Delaware July Fourth fireworks show goes on.
