13-year-old admits to killing mother’s fiance

A 13-year-old boy from the Sun­bury area could be held in a youth deten­tion facil­ity until the age of 21 after chang­ing his plea Wednes­day on charges that he killed his mother’s fiance. The boy, whom the Gazette is not nam­ing because of his age, admit­ted that he shot and killed 38-year-old Jef­frey Reece April 23. In a plea deal with pros­e­cu­tors, the boy admit­ted to one count of invol­un­tary manslaugh­ter with a gun spec­i­fi­ca­tion, a lesser offense than his orig­i­nal charge of murder.

Judge hears updates about juvenile accused of murder

Delaware County Juve­nile Court Judge Ken­neth J. Spicer on Fri­day heard updates about the case involv­ing a 13-year-old Sun­bury boy accused of killing his mother’s fiance. A pro­ce­dural hear­ing, called a sta­tus con­fer­ence, was held Fri­day morn­ing at Delaware County Juve­nile Court as prepa­ra­tions for the trial con­tinue. That date is still ten­ta­tively set for Oct. 17.

Delaware County com­mis­sion­ers think the Ohio Fallen Heroes Memo­r­ial in Sun­bury is a unique attrac­tion, and they want peo­ple to know about it. That’s why they unan­i­mously voted Thurs­day to ask the Ohio Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion to approve installing signs point­ing toward the memo­r­ial, which hon­ors Ohio sol­diers who have died since Sept. 11, 2001, on the north­bound and south­bound at the Delaware/Sunbury Inter­state 71 exits.
