The trial of the Delaware res­i­dent and Iraq War vet­eran accused of killing his room­mate in March went under way Mon­day, as pros­e­cu­tors re-created the crime scene and pre­sented tes­ti­mony from two wit­nesses. In open­ing state­ments, Delaware County Pros­e­cu­tor Carol O’Brien told jurors that Joel Sell­ers, 25, killed George McArthur, 24, a child­hood friend, after they argued about a party hosted at the town­house they lived in together at 781 Lib­erty Road in Delaware.

Avoiding the most dangerous chemicals

Unfor­tu­nately we live in a world where we are sur­rounded by human-made chem­i­cals (more than 80,000 are in use in the U.S.). Of those, only a few hun­dred have been tested for safety. I learned a lot in a recent arti­cle in Nat­ural Home and Gar­den Mag­a­zine (July/August 2011) titled “Chem­i­cal War­fare” by K. Lerner and A. King­fisher. The updated dirty dozen, new clean 15

The Envi­ron­men­tal Work­ing Group has updated its list of the most pes­ti­cide con­t­a­m­i­nated pro­duce noto­ri­ously known as the “Dirty Dozen.” They’ve also put together a list of the “Clean 15,” which are the least con­t­a­m­i­nated fruits and veg­gies. The idea behind the lists is to give shop­pers an idea of where they might want to spend their dol­lars for organic purchases.
