Congress pushes back on healthier school lunches

WASHINGTON — Con­gress wants to keep pizza and french fries on school lunch lines, fight­ing back against an Obama admin­is­tra­tion pro­posal to make school lunches healthier.

Study: Nearly 350M diabetics worldwide

LONDON — The num­ber of adults world­wide with dia­betes has more than dou­bled in three decades, jump­ing to an esti­mated 347 mil­lion, a new study says. Much of that increase is due to aging pop­u­la­tions — since dia­betes typ­i­cally hits in mid­dle age — and pop­u­la­tion growth, but part of it has also been fueled by ris­ing obe­sity rates.

From reg­u­lat­ing sales to low­er­ing fat con­tent in fla­vored milk, two pend­ing state laws have pro­posed wide-reaching changes for school dis­tricts. Olen­tangy Board of Edu­ca­tion recently dis­cussed this leg­is­la­tion, high­light­ing poten­tial changes in pro­duce as well as prices.
