Ohio Democratic chairman beats back challenge

COLUMBUS — The chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party on Wednesday handily beat back a challenge to unseat him in a party squabble with implications for this fall’s presidential election in a critical swing state.

COLUMBUS — Public documents released Monday by voter advocates show representatives of U.S. House Speaker John Boehner and operatives at the National Republican Congressional Committee were central in drawing the state’s disputed congressional map.

Dems hope union victory spurs Ohio House takeover

COLUMBUS — Unionized teachers and retirees, local government officials, and veterans are among public workers running for office in an effort by Ohio Democrats to take control of the state House after a successful fall campaign to repeal a collective bargaining overhaul championed by Gov. John Kasich and fellow Republicans.

Both sides insist judge make Ohio remap choice

COLUMBUS — With time running out to move the state’s presidential and U.S. House primaries back to March, an Ohio congressman is asking a judge to put contested GOP-drawn congressional lines into place immediately.

Dems hope Ohio union law defeat creates 2012 gains

COLUMBUS — Buoyed by voters’ overwhelming rejection of a Republican-backed union law, Ohio Democrats are looking to capitalize on support from labor groups that have traditionally favored GOP candidates as their focus shifts to next year’s races and efforts to repeal early voting changes and throw out a new congressional map.

Ohio Democrat lobbies for GOP’s redistricting plan

CLEVELAND — An Ohio congressman facing a primary fight against a fellow Democrat is lobbying for an embattled GOP redistricting plan, asking voters to call state lawmakers on his behalf. One Democrat targeted by the robo-calls, state Rep. Timothy DeGeeter of Parma, said Wednesday that he received such a call at his home and fewer than a dozen phone calls from residents who contacted him in response to U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s overture.

Ohio Dems give GOP deadline to deal on new map

COLUMBUS — Ohio’s Democratic Party chairman wants to know by the end of the week whether the state’s ruling Republicans are willing to compromise on a new congressional district map. The current map, drawn by the GOP and signed into law in September, is on hold after the Ohio Supreme Court ruled on Friday that it is subject to possible repeal by voters. Senate Republicans had appropriated money to local elections boards in the bill in a move they hoped would make it effective immediately and shield it from repeal.
