New con­cerns about the pro­posed changes to the City of Delaware’s so-called chicken ordi­nance prompted city coun­cil to delay its vote until its next meet­ing on April 9.

Dog attack victim sues City of Delaware

A res­i­dent is suing Delaware City for not pro­tect­ing him from the dog attack that left him per­ma­nently dis­abled. James Bright filed the civil law­suit one year after he was attacked by five cane corso mas­tiff dogs owned by Vir­gil Mitchell III. Of the total 31 defen­dants named in the Bright v. Mitchell case, about half are city employees.

Council accepts Nova liquor permit request

Despite Delaware Police Chief Russ Martin’s rec­om­men­da­tion, Delaware City Coun­cil agreed to not con­test a liquor per­mit as requested by Nova Restau­rant, LLC. Mar­tin said a rou­tine liquor per­mit back­ground inves­ti­ga­tion revealed some “dis­con­cert­ing” infor­ma­tion, such as the cur­rent charges against restau­rant owner Denise Dunlap.

Delaware husband, wife retire from long public careers

Delaware hus­band and wife Dan and Sue Ben­ning­ton expect a sense of loss when they both exit their community-oriented careers this week. Dan Ben­ning­ton, 65, the Delaware city attor­ney for the past 16 years and Sue Ben­ning­ton, 64, the Grady Memo­r­ial Hos­pi­tal Foun­da­tion direc­tor for the past 26 years, are retir­ing together today.

Local attor­ney Robert Owens asked Delaware City Coun­cil Mon­day to con­sider pub­licly dis­cussing whether coun­cil­woman Car­olyn Rig­gle vio­lated the city charter.
