It ain’t easy being St. Nick. To begin with, Santa has all the problems he’s always had. He has to manage a team of flying reindeer. He has to feed, clothe and employ an untold number of elves. He has to make toys for children all around the world, while also keeping track of whether they have behaved themselves or not, despite the fact that it’s not clear exactly how the naughty or nice scale operates. Then, on top of all of that, he has only 24 hours to deliver every single one of those presents across a planet nearly 25,000 miles around.

Faced with broken decorations and a $3,500 cut to their Christmas budget, Main Street Delaware is embracing the spirit of “Whoville” to celebrate the holidays. The fictional town was part of Dr. Seuss children’s story, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” — the theme of Main Street’s fundraising campaign as advertised on Facebook.

Mrs. Claus charms Victoria Grimes, 8 months old, and Michael Grimes, 3 years old, with a puppet as they pose with Santa Saturday afternoon at Gibson Florist. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will make other appearances in downtown Delaware during Main Street’s First Friday event between 6 and 9 p.m. Friday and between 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the former Global Village, 37 N. Sandusky St.
