Powell City Council this week approved a new set of rules regarding conduct among council members, a process that was initiated in response to complaints directed at councilwoman Sara Marie Brenner.

Following Gary Milner’s appointment to another term as Delaware City mayor, long-time council members Windell Wheeler and Joe DiGenova announced Monday that these would be their last terms.

Incumbent Richard Cline, as well as newcomers Jon Bennehoof and Mike Crites, snagged the election bids for three open seats on Powell City Council. Cline was the lone council member seeking his seat after sitting council members Don Grubbs and Art Schultz (who also currently serves as Powell mayor) did not file for re-election.

Four Powell City council members this week discussed proposed changes to the city’s rules regarding removal of members of city committees and boards. The discussed changes come after a resident in September asked that Councilwoman Sara Marie Brenner be removed from the council’s finance committee after liens were filed against her Powell business, Prestige Music Studios, for unpaid taxes. At that time, council members discussed the rules and said a change could be warranted upon further review. That same resident, Kent Bermingham, visited council a second time at the Oct. 4 meeting, and asked that Brenner resign from her elected duties. Brenner made a statement at that time that the matter was private.
Four candidates have emerged for three open seats on Powell City Council on the Nov. 8 ballot.
