The Delaware Gazette was rec­og­nized with eight awards dur­ing the Asso­ci­ated Press Soci­ety of Ohio’s annual awards ban­quet Sunday.

Delaware career center student killed in crash

Delaware Area Career Cen­ter stu­dent Ken­neth Ruzika was killed Tues­day in a crash near Mill Run Cross­ing. Police and para­medics arrived on the scene shortly before 11 a.m., Delaware City Police Capt. Bruce Pijanowski said. Ruzika, who was a pas­sen­ger in the car, was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Jack R. Cole, 84, of Sun­bury passed away unex­pect­edly Easter Sun­day morn­ing (April 8, 2012) at his win­ter home in Okee­chobee, Fla. Brian D. Knit­tle, 38, of Delaware passed away on Wednes­day (March 28, 2012) from injuries sus­tained in an auto­mo­bile acci­dent. A brief respite

A front-page story in last week’s Delaware Gazette noted the adop­tion of a con­tract for “respite” ser­vices for juve­niles. The story incor­rectly reported that the con­tract was for $110,000 rather than its actual value of just $10,000 (the Gazette kindly printed a cor­rec­tion the fol­low­ing day) and the arti­cle didn’t have the space to go into the rea­sons behind the use of respite care and the source of the fund­ing used to pro­vide it.

In the wake of a Gazette report detail­ing Delaware County Com­mis­sioner Ken O’Brien’s request for an inves­ti­ga­tion into county eco­nomic devel­op­ment direc­tor Gus Comstock’s accep­tance of tick­ets to sport­ing events, fel­low com­mis­sioner Den­nis Sta­ple­ton asked Mon­day for the inves­ti­ga­tion to expand to cover all county employ­ees and the gifts they may have accepted.
