AP NewsBreak: Competition cuts down Medicare fraud

WASHINGTON — A year­long exper­i­ment with com­pet­i­tive bid­ding for power wheel­chairs, dia­betic sup­plies and other per­sonal med­ical equip­ment pro­duced $200 mil­lion in sav­ings for Medicare, and gov­ern­ment offi­cials said Wednes­day they are expand­ing the pilot pro­gram in search of even greater dividends.

Obama’s Medicare nominee gets GOP leader’s support

WASHINGTON — Pres­i­dent Barack Obama’s Medicare nom­i­nee Tues­day got unex­pected sup­port from one of Con­gress’ Repub­li­can stars. House Major­ity Leader Eric Can­tor told The Asso­ci­ated Press that Mar­i­lyn Taven­ner is “emi­nently qual­i­fied” to run Medicare.

Higher copays seen for Medicare brand-name drugs

WASHINGTON — With three weeks left for seniors to change their Medicare pre­scrip­tion plan for 2012, a new study brings dis­tress­ing news: Copays for brand-name drugs are going up — sharply in some cases.
