When Delaware police offi­cers knocked on their door two months ago, Roy and Mary Gariepy’s hearts sank. They had a hunch it was the hor­ri­ble news they sus­pected might come — they had been dis­cussing for a few months the like­li­hood that their 23-year-old daugh­ter, Chelsea Gariepy, would end up dead soon.

COLUMBUS — A steroid ring uncov­ered in Ohio used drugs imported from China and processed at a secret lab in Ten­nessee to ped­dle drugs to high school ath­letes and other cus­tomers with a busi­ness model that imple­mented tech­niques such as bonuses and rebates, author­i­ties said Tuesday.

Popular bath salt drug now illegal in Ohio

The legal sale of bath salts, an addic­tive and poten­tially lethal drug, comes to an end in Delaware County and Ohio today, but for Tanya White and her boyfriend, Ken­neth Stiles, the ban is too late. “He had tried bath salts a few times in Mar­ion and orig­i­nally enjoyed the sedat­ing effect it had,” White said, recall­ing her boyfriend’s final days.
