Nigerian airplane crashes, killing all 153 onboard

LAGOS, Nige­ria — A com­mer­cial air­liner crashed into a densely pop­u­lated neigh­bor­hood in Nigeria’s largest city on Sun­day, killing all 153 peo­ple on board and oth­ers on the ground in the worst air dis­as­ter in nearly two decades for the trou­bled nation.

Transmission line public hearing draws few comments

The Ohio Power Sit­ing Board (OPSB) held a pub­lic hear­ing ear­lier this week at the Big Wal­nut High School Audi­to­rium to hear pub­lic con­cerns about the Trent-Vassell 138 kV Trans­mis­sion Line Project. The Trent-Vassell Trans­mis­sion Line would con­nect the Vas­sell Sub­sta­tion east of Sun­bury, now under con­struc­tion, to Amer­i­can Elec­tric Power’s exist­ing Trent-Delaware 138kV Line.

Local labor market problems growing more acute

Late last week the Ohio Depart­ment of Job and Fam­ily Ser­vices released Decem­ber 2011 employment/unemployment fig­ures for the greater Colum­bus area, with the unem­ploy­ment rate — not adjusted for sea­sonal vari­a­tions — drop­ping to 6.4 per­cent. This rate was down from November’s 6.6 per­cent, and was far below the unem­ploy­ment rate of 7.7 per­cent in Decem­ber 2010. And the reac­tion at the Depart­ment of Job and Fam­ily Ser­vices? Accord­ing to their spokesman, Ben­jamin John­son, “It shows def­i­nite improve­ment … (i)t shows a strength­en­ing econ­omy and an improv­ing job market.”
