‘Mr. Mulch’ to again challenge Brenner in GOP primary

In May 2010, Craig Schweitzer came in sec­ond to Andrew Bren­ner in the Repub­li­can pri­mary elec­tion. Schweitzer, the owner of Colum­bus busi­ness Out­door Liv­ing by Mr. Mulch, hopes to improve on his per­for­mance this time around.

CORONADO, Cal­i­for­nia (AP) — Pres­i­dent Barack Obama is jet­ting away from Washington’s polit­i­cal and bud­get bat­tles, focus­ing instead on Asia-Pacific nations and try­ing to per­suade vot­ers at home that the dis­tant region is essen­tial to Amer­i­can jobs and security.

Hats off to Kinley

Buck­eye Val­ley East Ele­men­tary fifth graders put the fin­ish­ing touches on their fes­tive head­gear for the upcom­ing “Hats off to Kin­ley” fundraiser. The event will raise money for Kin­ley Strohl, a first grader at the school who is bat­tling leukemia. The hats will be worn by stu­dents dur­ing a run­way fash­ion show, after which the hats will be auc­tioned off. The event will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednes­day at the school at 522 East High St. in Ashley.

Ghost Walk draws crowd, scares up funds for Delaware’s Arts Castle

A ghost in one Gris­wold Street home in Delaware likes to steal scis­sors. The spir­its that haunted the for­mer Sunny Vee Nurs­ing Home on Lin­coln Street had a pro­cliv­ity for turn­ing water faucets on and off. One house, this one on Gris­wold Street, too, is haunted by the ghost of an old woman who, in life, could never be warm enough. When the own­ers would leave (although the para­nor­mal activ­ity has died down dra­mat­i­cally as of late), they would fre­quently return to find the ther­mo­stat set at a blis­ter­ing 95 degrees.

Ohio Wes­leyan Uni­ver­sity’ Sigma Phi Epsilon teamed up with the Cen­tral Ohio Chap­ter of the Alzheimer’s Asso­ci­a­tion Wednes­day for Belly Flop 2011, a belly flop com­pe­ti­tion that serves as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Asso­ci­a­tion. OWU stu­dent Erika Bryan won the con­test with a cringe-inducing flop that left other con­tes­tants in her wake.

Local singer returns to roots at Fair

A local singer-songwriter is per­form­ing with her band Sat­ur­day at the Delaware County Fair, open­ing for a national coun­try rock act. Erica Blinn, 24, per­forms from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in front of the race­track grand­stand as an opener for McGuf­fey Lane who plays from 7 to 9 p.m.
