
Incumbent Richard Cline, as well as newcomers Jon Bennehoof and Mike Crites, snagged the election bids for three open seats on Powell City Council. Cline was the lone council member seeking his seat after sitting council members Don Grubbs and Art Schultz (who also currently serves as Powell mayor) did not file for re-election.
Senior forward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal to highlight a 5-goal, second-half eruption that lifted sixth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan over Denison 5–1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Granville.

It was the proverbial tale of two halves.Ohio Wesleyan’s football team built a 17–7 first-half advantage behind the passing of sophomore quarterback Mason Espinoza, who threw for two touchdowns before turning the game over to the Battling Bishop defense, which held Denison off the scoreboard until the closing minute of the game in a season-opening 17–14 non-conference victory over the visiting Big Red Saturday night at Selby Field.

The Ashley American Legion Post 518 baseball team had eight hit’s the night before against Granville, but could not string them together.That problem disappeared Wednesday, as Post 518 had 14 hits, scored at least three runs in three different innings and recorded its second victory over Marysville’s Union Post 79A this season, this time by a 12–6 count at Marysville High School.
