Powell incumbent, two newcomers in Bennehoof, Crites earn seats

Incum­bent Richard Cline, as well as new­com­ers Jon Ben­nehoof and Mike Crites, snagged the elec­tion bids for three open seats on Pow­ell City Coun­cil. Cline was the lone coun­cil mem­ber seek­ing his seat after sit­ting coun­cil mem­bers Don Grubbs and Art Schultz (who also cur­rently serves as Pow­ell mayor) did not file for re-election.

Senior for­ward Tyler Bryant (Chillicothe/Unioto) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal to high­light a 5-goal, second-half erup­tion that lifted sixth-ranked Ohio Wes­leyan over Deni­son 5–1 in North Coast Ath­letic Con­fer­ence play on Sat­ur­day in Granville.

It was the prover­bial tale of two halves.Ohio Wesleyan’s foot­ball team built a 17–7 first-half advan­tage behind the pass­ing of sopho­more quar­ter­back Mason Espinoza, who threw for two touch­downs before turn­ing the game over to the Bat­tling Bishop defense, which held Deni­son off the score­board until the clos­ing minute of the game in a season-opening 17–14 non-conference vic­tory over the vis­it­ing Big Red Sat­ur­day night at Selby Field.

The Ash­ley Amer­i­can Legion Post 518 base­ball team had eight hit’s the night before against Granville, but could not string them together.That prob­lem dis­ap­peared Wednes­day, as Post 518 had 14 hits, scored at least three runs in three dif­fer­ent innings and recorded its sec­ond vic­tory over Marysville’s Union Post 79A this sea­son, this time by a 12–6 count at Marysville High School.
