Bishops win host tournament

It was a character-building vic­tory for the Bat­tling Bishops.Ohio Wes­leyan, build­ing as much as a 16-point lead with just over 10 min­utes remain­ing in the game, held on for a hard-earned 65–63 vic­tory over Mari­etta in the Bat­tling Bish­ops’ “Hoops for Hope” Tour­na­ment Fri­day after­noon at Branch Rickey Arena.

Ohio Wes­leyan, behind its best offen­sive per­for­mance of the sea­son, snapped its 7-game los­ing streak with a 31-point, 84–53 vic­tory over Penn State-DuBois in the open­ing round of the Bishop Clas­sic “Hoops for Hope” Tour­na­ment Thurs­day night at Branch Rickey Arena.

For many, sum­mer intern­ships are filled with days of fetch­ing cof­fee and mak­ing copies. For Ostrander’s Kyle Nappi, they were filled with days brush­ing shoul­ders with four-star gen­er­als. Nappi, who has an exten­sive col­lec­tion of auto­graphs and bio­graph­i­cal infor­ma­tion from mil­i­tary vet­er­ans from all over the world, this sum­mer worked as an intern in the Depart­ment of Defense at the Pen­ta­gon in Wash­ing­ton, D.C.

Army: Some Arlington markers may need replacement

ARLINGTON, Va. — Thou­sands of grave mark­ers at Arling­ton National Ceme­tery may need to be replaced or added to accu­rately account for the dead, fol­low­ing a metic­u­lous Army review of each of the nearly 260,000 head­stones and niche cov­ers on the grounds. In a report to Con­gress on Thurs­day, the Army found poten­tial dis­crep­an­cies between head­stones and ceme­tery paper­work on about 64,000 grave mark­ers — about one in four.

Cincin­nati was abuzz this week head­ing into the annual matchup between the city’s major col­le­giate bas­ket­ball pro­grams, Cincin­nati and Xavier. Com­ing into the game, Xavier was ranked as the 8th best team in the nation and so it wasn’t sur­pris­ing that as the final sec­onds ticked off the clock, Xavier was win­ning by a com­fort­able margin.

OWU’s cold shooting culprit in 60-45 loss to Allegheny

Allegheny held off repeated Ohio Wes­leyan runs at the lead, but other than an early 2–0 lead on sopho­more post Tamra Londot’s base­line jumper 22 sec­onds into the game, Stacey Ungashick Reed’s Bat­tling Bish­ops never regained the advan­tage in a 60–45 North Coast Ath­letic Con­fer­ence loss to the vis­it­ing Gators Sat­ur­day after­noon at Branch Rickey Arena.

Bishops ride 28-0 first-half runto 82-70 NCAC nod over Allegheny

Six and count­ing …Ohio Wes­leyan, sparked by a 28–0 opening-half run, rolled to its sixth straight vic­tory with an 82–70 North Coast Ath­letic Con­fer­ence deci­sion over Allegheny in front of an appre­cia­tive crowd Sat­ur­day after­noon at Branch Rickey Arena. The con­test marked the NCAC opener for both teams.
