The Christmas season is upon us. Others may hear the jolly sound of Santa toting up the cash-register receipts. All I can hear is the wailing and gnashing of teeth as folks learn to use their new telescopes.

My first experience with amateur astronomy was not a good one. I couldn’t find anything in my crude, home-built telescope. I had heard that members of the astronomy club did their stargazing at a site north of Columbus. I decided one clear night to go there and ask for some help.
