Congress dodges one crisis, now on to the next

WASHINGTON (AP) — One cri­sis averted, on to the next. The day after Con­gress man­aged to avoid a gov­ern­ment shut­down — again — Repub­li­cans and Democ­rats stared ahead Tues­day at major fights over spend­ing that under­score a deep divide that’s sure to define the fast-approaching national elections.

WASHINGTON (AP) — End­ing weeks of polit­i­cal brinkman­ship, Con­gress finessed a dis­pute over dis­as­ter aid Mon­day night and advanced leg­is­la­tion to avoid a par­tial gov­ern­ment shut­down only days away.

Obama would raise taxes to pay for his jobs bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a sharp chal­lenge to the GOP, Pres­i­dent Barack Obama pro­posed pay­ing for his costly new jobs plan Mon­day with tax hikes that Repub­li­cans have already emphat­i­cally rejected. The recep­tion to his new pro­posal was no more wel­com­ing, set­ting the stage for a likely new fight with Congress.

Tea party debt plan takes center stage

WASHINGTON (AP) — The next step in the weeks-long saga over how to increase the government’s bor­row­ing cap is to let House tea party forces try it their way.
