Secretary of state kicks off drive to recruit poll workers

With the 2012 pres­i­den­tial elec­tion less than 200 days away, Ohio Sec­re­tary of State Jon Husted used the Delaware County Board of Elec­tions to kick off a state-wide drive to recruit poll work­ers and high­light changes in elec­tion procedure.

BV voters will decide how soon North closes

Faced with a bud­get short­fall of $1.3 mil­lion head­ing into the 2012–2013 school year and the unpop­u­lar prospect of shut­ter­ing one of the district’s ele­men­tary schools to help close the gap, Buck­eye Val­ley School School Board mem­bers on Wednes­day agreed to a com­pro­mise plan that could allow North Ele­men­tary to remain open for at least a cou­ple more years.

Early voting for March primary is now under way

Early vot­ing for Ohio’s March 6 pri­mary elec­tion kicked off yes­ter­day. But for many of Delaware County’s approx­i­mately 93,000 unaf­fil­i­ated vot­ers, they could show up at the polls with noth­ing to vote on. That is unless they are will­ing to sac­ri­fice their polit­i­cal independence.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives passed a com­pro­mise bill to reunite the state’s pri­mary in March and approve a new con­gres­sional map, end­ing months of polit­i­cal wran­gling in that cham­ber. The 77–17 House vote came at the eleventh-hour dur­ing the chamber’s last sched­uled vot­ing day this year. It’s aimed at end­ing a dis­pute over new GOP-drawn con­gres­sional lines.

County elections director fired

One of the two co-directors of the Delaware County Board of Elec­tions has been fired. The four-member board that over­sees the county’s elec­tion office on Wednes­day voted unan­i­mously to dis­miss Demo­c­ra­tic Board of Elec­tions Direc­tor Brian Mumford.

Issue 2 brought highest voter turnout in county in years

While it was ulti­mately one of only six Ohio coun­ties that passed the con­tro­ver­sial mea­sure, Issue 2 drove the high­est voter turnout for an off-year Delaware County gen­eral elec­tion in more than 20 years.

Recount possible in Olentangy race

A Nov. 22 date has been set for the Delaware County Board of Elec­tions to deter­mine whether or not a recount will be nec­es­sary to deter­mine who won a third seat on the Olen­tangy school board this election.
