Verdict pending in murder trial

The fate of accused mur­derer Joel Sell­ers is now in the hands of a Delaware County jury. Clos­ing argu­ments were pre­sented Thurs­day in the trial. Sell­ers is accused of fatally shoot­ing his room­mate after an argu­ment over an all-night party in the apart­ment they shared.

Dur­ing emo­tional tes­ti­mony Wednes­day, an at times tear­ful Joel Sell­ers told jurors that, on the day he shot and killed his child­hood friend, he didn’t think that friend would stop hit­ting him. “I thought, ‘Wow, when is this going to stop?’ I kept say­ing, ‘Please. Please stop. You win.’ I was telling him he could have his way,” Sell­ers said dur­ing tes­ti­mony on the third day of his mur­der trial in the Delaware County Com­mon Pleas court­room of Judge Everett H. Krueger.

Delaware man pleads not guilty to robbing credit union

A man appeared in court Mon­day via a video link from the Delaware County Jail to face charges after police say he robbed a Delaware credit union last week. Leslie E. Williams, 49, of 114 Eaton St., Delaware, pleaded not guilty to aggra­vated rob­bery, break­ing and enter­ing and domes­tic vio­lence charges. He turned him­self to police Sun­day after he was iden­ti­fied using sur­veil­lance footage from the CES Credit Union, 33 Lon­don Road, on Aug. 10.

Local retiree arrested in ’78 Calif. murder

A 62-year-old Delaware man with a lengthy rap sheet who was arrested on a Los Ange­les 1978 mur­der charge Mon­day night iron­i­cally served on the block watch and safety com­mit­tee for the retire­ment com­mu­nity where he lived, accord­ing to neigh­bors there.

Man who left infant alone to rob pizza shop gets 3 years

A 19-year-old Delaware man will pay for his deci­sion to leave his infant son at home while he held up a local pizza shop at gun­point. Delaware County Court of Com­mon Pleas Judge Everett H. Krueger on Thurs­day sen­tenced Brad Lee Miller, of 60 Gris­wold St., to three years in prison. He will be eli­gi­ble for early release after six months. Miller pleaded guilty to aggra­vated rob­bery, car­ry­ing a con­cealed weapon and child endan­ger­ment last month.
