FDIC backs ban on banks trading for own profit

WASHINGTON — Banks would be barred from trad­ing for their own profit instead of their clients under a rule fed­eral reg­u­la­tors pro­posed Tues­day. The Fed­eral Deposit Insur­ance Corp. backed the draft rule on a 3–0 vote. The ban on so-called pro­pri­etary trad­ing was required under the finan­cial over­haul law.

Ohio’s new election law spurs ballot repeal effort

COLUMBUS — Parts of a new elec­tion law in Ohio are being tar­geted for a bal­lot repeal effort about two weeks after the gov­er­nor of this tra­di­tion­ally pres­i­den­tial swing state signed the over­haul mea­sure. A coali­tion of law­mak­ers, pro­gres­sive groups and state’s ex-elections chief said Thurs­day that they have started col­lect­ing sig­na­tures in an effort to stop pieces of the law from tak­ing effect Sept 30.

Ohio House speaker’s Twitter account hacked

A hacker breached the Ohio House speaker’s Twit­ter account and sent out tweets that made it appear the Repub­li­can was sup­port­ing lib­eral causes, a spokesman for the House Repub­li­can Cau­cus said Thursday.
