Review begins for unsigned divorce cases

Delaware County Com­mon Pleas Judge Everett H. Krueger wants the thou­sands of peo­ple who have got­ten divorced in his court to feel con­fi­dent in the jus­tice sys­tem. That’s why his staff is begin­ning a review of divorce cases on the heels of a May 26 appel­late court rul­ing that over­turned a 2005 divorce he presided over.

The law of enemy combatants

Isoruku Yamamoto was 59 years old when he died in April of 1943. For the pre­vi­ous four years he had served as com­man­der in chief of the com­bined fleet of Japan. In that capac­ity he had devel­oped a plan to make a pre-emptive strike on the United States to draw down Amer­i­can naval power. He planned and led the attack on Pearl Har­bor in Decem­ber 1941 in which 2,402 men were killed– the worst attack ever on Amer­i­can soil by a for­eign force. Amer­i­cans ral­lied to a com­mon cause, rebuilt and fought back.

Killer’s arguments initially rejected

A fed­eral mag­is­trate ear­lier this week rec­om­mended reject­ing death row inmate Ger­ald Hand’s lat­est attempt to have his 2003 mur­der con­vic­tion overturned.

Magistrate grabbed, held employee’s shirt

Delaware County Mag­is­trate Stephen E. Wei­th­man grabbed a county infor­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy worker by the shirt for about three sec­onds before let­ting him go and leav­ing his court­room last Fri­day, sur­veil­lance footage obtained by the Gazette through a pub­lic records request shows.
