When the recession knocked Kathy Kotowski out of the job she held for 25 years, she decided it was time to become her own boss.

James Teinert, with Classic Home Renovators, cuts out a piece of corrugated steel Monday as part of the ongoing renovation work taking place at 20 E. Winter St., the soon-to-be new home of downtown Delaware’s non-profit promotional organization, Main Street Delaware Inc. The site’s location within downtown’s new cultural arts district, anchored by the Strand Theatre, will provide Main Street with more visibility. The renovation is being done using donated materials and volunteer contractors including, Mike Nelson Painting, Classic Home Renovators and Sherwin Williams. Amid Delaware City Council’s discussions regarding a $15,000 request to promote historic downtown Delaware, one man introduced his plans to promote downtown merchants at no cost to the city.
