RIYADH, Saudi Ara­bia — Yemen’s author­i­tar­ian Pres­i­dent Ali Abdul­lah Saleh agreed Wednes­day to step down amid a fierce upris­ing to oust him after 33 years in power. The U.S. and its pow­er­ful Gulf allies pressed for the deal, con­cerned that a secu­rity col­lapse in the impov­er­ished Arab nation was allow­ing an active al-Qaida fran­chise to gain a firmer foothold.

Veterans recognized at annual ceremony

Three Delaware County vet­er­ans have con­tin­ued serv­ing oth­ers even after com­plet­ing their com­mit­ment to the mil­i­tary. In recog­ni­tion of that ser­vice, they were each declared “out­stand­ing vet­er­ans” dur­ing a Vet­er­ans Day cer­e­mony at the Delaware County Cen­ter for Older Adults.

You know that you have a sub­stan­tial domes­tic prob­lem when news agen­cies an ocean away take note of it. It caught my atten­tion, there­fore, when the British Broad­cast­ing Cor­po­ra­tion recently com­pleted a report titled, “Major Epi­demic: The Untold Story of Child Abuse in the U.S.”
