Libya declared free, but Gadhafi death questioned

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Libya’s interim rulers declared the coun­try lib­er­ated on Sun­day after an eight-month civil war, launch­ing the oil-rich nation on what is meant to be a two-year tran­si­tion to democ­racy. But they laid out plans with an Islamist tone that could rat­tle their West­ern backers.

Gadhafi put on display in shopping center freezer

New video emerged of his vio­lent, chaotic last moments, show­ing fight­ers beat­ing him as they drag him away.

The euphoric fight­ers cel­e­brated with res­i­dents of the cap­i­tal in Green Square, the sym­bolic heart of the fad­ing regime.

Libya says NATO airstrike kills 15 west of capital

SURMAN, Libya (AP) — Libya’s gov­ern­ment said a NATO airstrike west of Tripoli early Mon­day destroyed a large fam­ily com­pound belong­ing to a close asso­ciate of Moam­mar Gad­hafi, killing at least 15 peo­ple, includ­ing three chil­dren. It was the sec­ond claim of civil­ian deaths at a home in as many days.

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Libya’s gov­ern­ment said NATO war­planes struck a res­i­den­tial neigh­bor­hood in the cap­i­tal Sun­day and killed nine civil­ians, includ­ing two chil­dren. Hours later, NATO con­firmed one of its airstrikes went astray.
