Murdoch rejects blame for hack scandal at hearing

LONDON (AP) — Sum­moned by law­mak­ers to answer for a phone hack­ing and bribery scan­dal at one of his tabloids, Rupert Mur­doch said he was hum­bled and ashamed Tues­day but accepted no respon­si­bil­ity for wrong­do­ing as a widen­ing inves­ti­ga­tion threat­ened to ensnare Britain’s prime minister.

LONDON (AP) — An inten­si­fy­ing voice­mail hack­ing and police bribery scan­dal cut closer than ever to Rupert Mur­doch and Scot­land Yard on Sun­day with the arrest of the media magnate’s for­mer British news­pa­per chief and the res­ig­na­tion of London’s police commissioner.

LONDON — Rupert Murdoch’s media empire was besieged Mon­day by accu­sa­tions that two more of his British news­pa­pers engaged in hack­ing, decep­tion and pri­vacy vio­la­tions that included access­ing for­mer Prime Min­is­ter Gor­don Brown’s bank account infor­ma­tion and steal­ing the med­ical records of his seri­ously ill baby son.

LONDON (AP) — The Mur­doch media empire unex­pect­edly jet­ti­soned the News of the World Thurs­day after a pub­lic back­lash over the ille­gal guer­rilla tac­tics it used to expose the rich, the famous and the royal and remain Britain’s best-selling Sun­day newspaper.
