Exotic animal regulations head to Ohio governor

COLUMBUS — Leg­is­la­tion that would tighten reg­u­la­tions on own­ing exotic ani­mals in Ohio was headed Tues­day to the gov­er­nor for his expected sig­na­ture, months after author­i­ties were forced to shoot dozens of lions, tigers and other dan­ger­ous wildlife released from a farm last fall.

REYNOLDSBURG — State offi­cials will return five sur­viv­ing exotic ani­mals to a woman whose hus­band released dozens of wild crea­tures before com­mit­ting sui­cide. The Ohio Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture announced the deci­sion Mon­day at an agency hear­ing in which the state was to defend its author­ity to quar­an­tine the ani­mals — two leop­ards, two pri­mates and a bear — on sus­pi­cion of infec­tious diseases.

COLUMBUS — Ohio geol­o­gists’ lat­est effort to map the best areas for Utica shale oil and gas pro­duc­tion shows poten­tial for an oil reser­voir in cen­tral Ohio but now excludes areas near Cleve­land and in south­east Ohio.

COLUMBUS — Cam­paign records due to the state on Fri­day will reveal how much both sides spent in a fall bal­lot fight that ended with the defeat of Ohio’s sweep­ing new col­lec­tive bar­gain­ing law.
