Union law draws contenders into Ohio primaries

COLUMBUS — The suc­cess­ful cam­paign to repeal Ohio’s col­lec­tive bar­gain­ing law last fall has drawn teach­ers and other pub­lic work­ers into Demo­c­ra­tic pri­mary races across the state as the party tries to regain seats in the Republican-dominated Leg­is­la­ture that passed the measure.

Thinning the prison herd

It’s not often that a Repub­li­can Gov­er­nor and an ACLU legal direc­tor are in agree­ment on some­thing. It’s even rarer if that agree­ment is over a crim­i­nal jus­tice reform bill. Such are the strange times in which we find our­selves in Ohio. The bill was House Bill 86 and its pro­vi­sions enact broad and sweep­ing reforms of crim­i­nal and juve­nile justice.

Cops oppose bill to drop Ohio front license plates

Law enforce­ment offi­cials oppose a pro­posal to drop the state’s require­ment for front license plates on vehi­cles, say­ing the plates are help­ful in track­ing down peo­ple who break the law.
