ROME (AP) — The first vic­tim from the Costa Con­cor­dia dis­as­ter was iden­ti­fied Wednes­day — a 38-year-old vio­lin­ist from Hun­gary who had been work­ing as an enter­tainer on the stricken cruise ship.

You know that you have a sub­stan­tial domes­tic prob­lem when news agen­cies an ocean away take note of it. It caught my atten­tion, there­fore, when the British Broad­cast­ing Cor­po­ra­tion recently com­pleted a report titled, “Major Epi­demic: The Untold Story of Child Abuse in the U.S.”

Delaware-born journalist, author Howard Bryan dies at 91

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Howard Bryan, an Ohio-born writer who moved to New Mex­ico to become one of the state’s most well-known jour­nal­ists and the author of a num­ber of books about his adopted state, died Sat­ur­day, pub­lisher and friend Mar­cia Kee­gan said. He was 91. Kee­han said Bryan died in his Albu­querque home from a can­cer­ous tumor in his nose.
