Crackdowns reach epicenter of Wall Street protests

NEW YORK — Crack­downs against the Occupy Wall Street encamp­ments across the coun­try reached the epi­cen­ter of the move­ment Tues­day, when police rousted pro­test­ers from a Man­hat­tan park and a judge ruled that their free speech rights do not extend to pitch­ing a tent and set­ting up camp for months at a time.

US: Sect bomb attacks possible in Nigeria capital

LAGOS, Nige­ria (AP) — After a week­end of vio­lence and fear, U.S. offi­cials warned Sun­day that lux­ury hotels fre­quented by for­eign­ers and Nigeria’s elite may be bombed by a rad­i­cal Mus­lim sect as the death toll from attacks in the country’s north­east rose to more than 100.

Murdoch rejects blame for hack scandal at hearing

LONDON (AP) — Sum­moned by law­mak­ers to answer for a phone hack­ing and bribery scan­dal at one of his tabloids, Rupert Mur­doch said he was hum­bled and ashamed Tues­day but accepted no respon­si­bil­ity for wrong­do­ing as a widen­ing inves­ti­ga­tion threat­ened to ensnare Britain’s prime minister.
