Obama ‘putting colleges on notice’ on high tuition

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Pres­i­dent Barack Obama fired a warn­ing at the nation’s col­leges and uni­ver­si­ties on Fri­day, threat­en­ing to strip their fed­eral aid if they “jack up tuition” every year and to give the money instead to schools show­ing restraint and value.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Careen­ing toward a polit­i­cally toxic tax hike, Pres­i­dent Barack Obama implored House Speaker John Boehner on Wednes­day to get behind a two-month stop­gap until a longer deal could be struck early next year, call­ing it the only real way out of a mess that is threat­en­ing the pay­checks of 160 mil­lion work­ers and iso­lat­ing House Republicans.

Debt fight continues despite Wall St. warning

Fac­ing a dire warn­ing from a credit rat­ing agency, the Obama admin­is­tra­tion lob­bied some of Con­gress’ most con­ser­v­a­tive mem­bers Thurs­day for an increase in the nation’s debt limit. Repub­li­cans responded that the surest way to reas­sure finan­cial mar­kets was to enact deep deficit cuts.
