Ohio union law ballot issue passes deadline

COLUMBUS — The dead­line for remov­ing a repeal ques­tion on Ohio’s con­tentious col­lec­tive bar­gain­ing law from the fall bal­lot passed Mon­day with­out fan­fare, posi­tion­ing vot­ers to decide the fate of the law in Novem­ber. Pass­ing the dead­line doesn’t pre­vent Repub­li­can lead­ers and oppo­nents of the law from reach­ing a deal later to change or toss out the leg­is­la­tion, though that’s seen as unlikely.

COLUMBUS — Oppo­nents of the fed­eral health care over­haul cham­pi­oned by Pres­i­dent Barack Obama scored a key legal vic­tory on Fri­day that should clear a pro­posed bal­lot mea­sure for a fall vote in a piv­otal state.

Ohio’s new election law spurs ballot repeal effort

COLUMBUS — Parts of a new elec­tion law in Ohio are being tar­geted for a bal­lot repeal effort about two weeks after the gov­er­nor of this tra­di­tion­ally pres­i­den­tial swing state signed the over­haul mea­sure. A coali­tion of law­mak­ers, pro­gres­sive groups and state’s ex-elections chief said Thurs­day that they have started col­lect­ing sig­na­tures in an effort to stop pieces of the law from tak­ing effect Sept 30.

COLUMBUS — With his bud­get now passed, Repub­li­can Ohio Gov. John Kasich blasted Democ­rats and their allies on Fri­day for pur­su­ing a par­ti­san agenda while fight­ing his efforts to fix the state’s economy.

Ohio House speaker’s Twitter account hacked

A hacker breached the Ohio House speaker’s Twit­ter account and sent out tweets that made it appear the Repub­li­can was sup­port­ing lib­eral causes, a spokesman for the House Repub­li­can Cau­cus said Thursday.
