‘Anonymous’ hackers target US security think tank

LONDON — The loose-knit hack­ing move­ment “Anony­mous” claimed Sun­day to have stolen thou­sands of credit card num­bers and other per­sonal infor­ma­tion belong­ing to clients of U.S.-based secu­rity think tank Strat­for. One hacker said the goal was to pil­fer funds from indi­vid­u­als’ accounts to give away as Christ­mas dona­tions, and some vic­tims con­firmed unau­tho­rized trans­ac­tions linked to their credit cards.

Penn State pledges $1.5M for sex-crimes groups

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State will donate $1.5 mil­lion in bowl pro­ceeds to a pair of groups that work with sex-crime vic­tims, a ges­ture aimed at heal­ing the school’s bat­tered image in the wake of child sex charges against a for­mer assis­tant foot­ball coach.

Crackdowns reach epicenter of Wall Street protests

NEW YORK — Crack­downs against the Occupy Wall Street encamp­ments across the coun­try reached the epi­cen­ter of the move­ment Tues­day, when police rousted pro­test­ers from a Man­hat­tan park and a judge ruled that their free speech rights do not extend to pitch­ing a tent and set­ting up camp for months at a time.

A ghost in one Gris­wold Street home in Delaware likes to steal scis­sors. The spir­its that haunted the for­mer Sunny Vee Nurs­ing Home on Lin­coln Street had a pro­cliv­ity for turn­ing water faucets on and off. One house, this one on Gris­wold Street, too, is haunted by the ghost of an old woman who, in life, could never be warm enough. When the own­ers would leave (although the para­nor­mal activ­ity has died down dra­mat­i­cally as of late), they would fre­quently return to find the ther­mo­stat set at a blis­ter­ing 95 degrees.

Indicted deputies suspended without pay

The three Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies fac­ing felony charges are at least tem­porar­ily out of work, Sher­iff Wal­ter L. Davis said Mon­day. Speak­ing to reporters, Davis said he has placed Lyle A. Chasse, James F. Cuc­carese II and Robert E. Cur­ren on indef­i­nite unpaid admin­is­tra­tive leave from their $28.34-an-hour jobs. He informed the deputies of his deci­sion in indi­vid­ual meet­ings Mon­day morning.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Savor­ing the unlike­li­est of vic­to­ries, Repub­li­cans called their tri­umph in a New York City con­gres­sional race a repu­di­a­tion of Pres­i­dent Barack Obama’s poli­cies on the econ­omy and Israel on Wednes­day as pub­lic and pri­vate polls showed his approval rat­ings plum­met­ing in a dis­trict he car­ried hand­ily in 2008.

Kingston Twp. man arraigned on assault charge

A Kingston Town­ship man was arraigned on Mon­day on charges that he assaulted another man late last month, severely injur­ing him.
