Obama, GOP vie for upper hand on energy

MALJAMAR, N.M. — Woo­ing a nation of increas­ingly angry motorists, Pres­i­dent Barack Obama and his Repub­li­can rivals are all plung­ing into gas-pump pol­i­tics, seek­ing the upper hand as energy becomes a dri­ving issue in the elec­tion campaign.

For many gar­den­ers, the sea­son is over after the first frost. Our part of Ohio just is too cold to do much except clean up and tend a few house­plants. Yet, there is a whole world of gar­den­ing that can be accom­plished over the win­ter if you have a cold frame. I am often sur­prised by how lit­tle many gar­den­ers know about this sim­ple approach to win­ter gardening.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A major donor to Pres­i­dent Barack Obama dis­cussed with White House offi­cials a solar energy com­pany that received a half-billion dol­lar fed­eral loan and later went bank­rupt, newly released emails show.
