Obama ‘putting colleges on notice’ on high tuition

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Pres­i­dent Barack Obama fired a warn­ing at the nation’s col­leges and uni­ver­si­ties on Fri­day, threat­en­ing to strip their fed­eral aid if they “jack up tuition” every year and to give the money instead to schools show­ing restraint and value.

Official: Trustees’ support for Paterno eroding

College prices up again as states slash budgets

As Pres­i­dent Obama pre­pared to announce new mea­sures Wednes­day to help ease the bur­den of stu­dent loan debt, new fig­ures painted a demor­al­iz­ing pic­ture of col­lege costs for stu­dents and par­ents: Aver­age in-state tuition and fees at four-year pub­lic col­leges rose an addi­tional $631 this fall, or 8.3 per­cent, com­pared with a year ago.
