NEW YORK — This Christmas, Ralphie can skip the air rifle and poke his eye out with jazz hands. A musical stage version of the classic film “A Christmas Story” has begun a five-city tour with hopes that it might stick around a little longer, like a tongue on a frozen flagpole.

WASHINGTON — Count your blessings this Thanksgiving. It’s good for you. While it seems pretty obvious that gratitude is a positive emotion, psychologists for decades rarely delved into the science of giving thanks. But in the last several years they have, learning in many experiments that it is one of humanity’s most powerful emotions. It makes you happier and can change your attitude about life, like an emotional reset button.

As I think of the upcoming game with that “team up north” (and I try not to think about it much, truth be told), my mind turns to thoughts of … binary stars. So I’m an astro-nerd. Sue me.

The Internet strikes again

Sometimes, a case that seems simple and benign is really about much more than it appears and something much deeper lurks beneath the surface. Such a case was decided this week by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals out of a matter from the western district of Wisconsin. Though it appeared to be a relatively local dispute, it had the potential to have major implications for schools like The Ohio State University.

Kevorkian’s audacious attitude set him apart

DETROIT — Jack Kevorkian built his suicide machine with parts gathered from flea markets and stashed it in a rusty Volkswagen van.
