Senate rejects GOP environment, energy proposals

WASHINGTON — The Sen­ate killed Republican-backed attempts to over­turn sev­eral of Pres­i­dent Barack Obama’s envi­ron­men­tal and energy poli­cies Thurs­day as law­mak­ers worked against a March 31 dead­line to keep aid flow­ing to more than 100,000 trans­porta­tion con­struc­tion projects around the country.

Obama’s budget: Government still getting bigger

WASHINGTON — Tak­ing a pass on rein­ing in gov­ern­ment growth, Pres­i­dent Barack Obama unveiled a record $3.8 tril­lion election-year bud­get plan Mon­day, call­ing for stimulus-style spend­ing on roads and schools and tax hikes on the wealthy to help pay the costs. The ideas landed with a thud on Capi­tol Hill.

ODOT: interchange south of US 36/Ohio 37 is best

A new Inter­state 71 inter­change south of the exist­ing one at U.S. 36/Ohio 37 would best help alle­vi­ate heavy traf­fic at the Delaware exit, Ohio Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion offi­cials have decided. That’s good news to devel­oper Pat Shiv­ley, whose Sun­bury Park­way commercial/industrial plan for the south­ern side of U.S. 36/Ohio 37 hinges on hav­ing an inter­change built on that side of the road. A rival group led by Polaris devel­oper Bob Weiler and Nation­wide Realty has also been lob­by­ing the state to build an inter­change on the north side of U.S. 36/Ohio 37.
