After quakes, Ohio plans tough gas-drilling rules

COLUMBUS — A dozen earth­quakes in north­east­ern Ohio were almost cer­tainly induced by injec­tion of gas-drilling waste­water into the earth, state reg­u­la­tors said Fri­day as they announced a series of tough new rules for drillers.

Delaware city water plant cost higher than expected

The cost of Delaware City’s multi-million-dollar water treat­ment plant is higher than pre­vi­ously esti­mated, and now city offi­cials are con­sid­er­ing reduc­ing the plant’s pro­posed new capac­ity. City Pub­lic Util­i­ties Direc­tor Brad Stan­ton said the cur­rent esti­mate of the total con­struc­tion cost is a lit­tle more than $26 mil­lion. The pre­vi­ous esti­mated total project cost was about $25 million.

AEP: New rules would lead to shutdowns, job cuts

COLUMBUS — Amer­i­can Elec­tric Power Co. Inc. warned Thurs­day that it would have to shut down five plants and reduce oper­a­tions at six oth­ers, at a cost of 600 jobs, to com­ply with new rules for coal-fired power plants pro­posed by the U.S. Envi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion Agency.
