Anger, vulnerability and shock were common reactions many Delaware County community members experienced during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Even 10 years later, some of those feelings still linger. The nation’s property crime rate are on the rise in non-metropolitan counties, according to FBI reports. Similar records provided by local law enforcement agencies suggest that Delaware County is no exception. A recent Federal Bureau of Investigation report finds that property crime increased 2.0 percent in “non-metropolitan” counties between 2009 and 2010. In contrast, larger cities experienced a 1.9-percent decrease.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s deputy that emailed Ohio Sen. Kris Jordan with allegations that the sheriff’s office mishandled an investigation into a domestic incident at the Republican lawmaker’s home said he came forward because he thought it was the “right thing to do.”

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in that occurred at Motorcycle Maxx, 5838 U.S. Route 23 in Lewis Center. The crime occurred sometime between 10 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8 a.m. Aug. 8. The thieves smashed a window to gain entry. Once inside they were able to steal approximately 20 vehicles including a four wheeler, several dirt bikes and multiple street sport bikes, the sheriff’s office reported in a written release. The thieves also got away with a large amount of clothing and other merchandise, as well as a pick-up truck that was parked outside the business.
