Community figures share thoughts on 9/11

Anger, vul­ner­a­bil­ity and shock were com­mon reac­tions many Delaware County com­mu­nity mem­bers expe­ri­enced dur­ing the 9/11 ter­ror­ist attacks. Even 10 years later, some of those feel­ings still linger. Yet unity, aware­ness, and a broader world view also pre­vail. Reflect­ing on 9/11, peo­ple rep­re­sent­ing var­i­ous per­spec­tives of this com­mu­nity shared how that day has con­tin­ued to influ­ence their lives.

Delaware County sees slight uptick of thefts, decline of violent crimes

The nation’s prop­erty crime rate are on the rise in non-metropolitan coun­ties, accord­ing to FBI reports. Sim­i­lar records pro­vided by local law enforce­ment agen­cies sug­gest that Delaware County is no excep­tion. A recent Fed­eral Bureau of Inves­ti­ga­tion report finds that prop­erty crime increased 2.0 per­cent in “non-metropolitan” coun­ties between 2009 and 2010. In con­trast, larger cities expe­ri­enced a 1.9-percent decrease.

Deputy: emailing Jordan with allegations ‘right thing to do’

The Delaware County Sheriff’s deputy that emailed Ohio Sen. Kris Jor­dan with alle­ga­tions that the sheriff’s office mis­han­dled an inves­ti­ga­tion into a domes­tic inci­dent at the Repub­li­can lawmaker’s home said he came for­ward because he thought it was the “right thing to do.”

Sheriff seeks information in theft of motorcycles

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is inves­ti­gat­ing a break-in that occurred at Motor­cy­cle Maxx, 5838 U.S. Route 23 in Lewis Cen­ter. The crime occurred some­time between 10 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8 a.m. Aug. 8. The thieves smashed a win­dow to gain entry. Once inside they were able to steal approx­i­mately 20 vehi­cles includ­ing a four wheeler, sev­eral dirt bikes and mul­ti­ple street sport bikes, the sheriff’s office reported in a writ­ten release. The thieves also got away with a large amount of cloth­ing and other mer­chan­dise, as well as a pick-up truck that was parked out­side the business.
