Welcome Farmer’s Market season

I love this time of year — ’tis the season for outdoor markets and they abound in Delaware County — so many opportunities, so little time. My goal this year is to make it to all of the markets below at least a few times each before it’s all over (which is much too quickly by my way of thinking).

Romney, Mormons brace for a mean political season

SALT LAKE CITY — As 20,000 Mormons streamed from the church conference center, a ragtag group of protesters stood across the street shouting that the Latter-day Saints were going to hell. Mormon families, who had gathered here for two days of speeches and spiritual guidance called General Conference, ignored the hecklers or laughed and kept walking.

Don’t miss these eco-events

I am amazed at all of the great eco-friendly events taking place in and around our county. Delaware is hopping with educational and family-friendly happenings. Here is a snapshot of some local events coming up that you might want to consider attending:

Former Chairman Bennett elected to lead Ohio GOP

COLUMBUS — Republicans on Friday settled a long-running intraparty feud, electing a veteran chairman to lead the party through the presidential election and naming the man he’s replacing to a national committee post.

Growing your own produce is increasingly popular

With all the community gardens sprouting up around Delaware County, it is easy to see that growing your own produce is even more popular than it was even just a few years ago. That’s a good thing. Reaping the rewards of growing fruits and vegetables is a great way to reconnect with nature and the origins of our food.

NEW YORK — Liz Slayback can trace her decision to pursue a divorce to a precise, painful moment. “I knew my marriage was over and the divorce proceedings were about to begin when I came home and I found my husband in bed with my two best friends,” said the 33-year-old dental hygienist from Staten Island.

Spring has sprung so early

I don’t know about you, but I feel like it’s summer break already and it’s Ohio … in March! What a marvel this warm weather has been. The sights, sounds and smells of spring are in full bloom and, according to Master Gardeners in Licking County, it’s three weeks early.

Food: Waste not, want not

Did you know people in the U.S. and other developed nations waste millions of tons of food each year? Here are some statistics I found in a recent magazine article that might boggle your mind:
