An employee of a Texas dance studio says an exchange of gunfire that left two people dead and several others injured during a party began around midnight.

Jason Moore was working at the studio and says he noticed prior to the shooting that “a lot of people had guns on them.” He says that there was no professional security at the event but that someone from the group who he believed had rented the space was using a metal detector wand as people entered.

From the back of the studio, Moore heard a volley of gunfire near the front entrance. He used a towel to try to compress the chest of one of the victims, but he was shot in the lungs and died at the scene.

The owner of a Texas dance studio says a group having a party on the property wasn’t authorized to be there ahead of a shooting that left two people dead and several others injured.

Laura Reyna is the owner and artistic director at Studio 74 in Fort Worth. She tells The Associated Press that there was no contract for the group to be at the studio at all on Friday night and that she considers it trespassing.

Jason Moore was working at the studio when gunfire erupted outside. Moore says he tried to resuscitate one of the victims, but he was shot in the lungs and died at the scene.

Reyna says Moore had thought incorrectly that the group was authorized to be there.
