TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A northwestern Ohio health care provider says it will buy a vacant 70-acre property along Toledo’s downtown riverfront as part of a plan to turn it into a park.
Toledo-based ProMedica says it plans to acquire the site and then sell it to Metroparks of Toledo.
ProMedica operates 14 hospitals in northwestern Ohio and southeastern Michigan and is building a new headquarters in downtown Toledo.
The property targeted for a new park sits along the Maumee (maw-MEE’) River. It has been the site of a number of failed development plans over the years.
It was bought by the city of Toledo in the 1990s and then sold to a Chinese investor-owned group five years ago.
