Ohio high court: No appeal for teen in 94-year-old’s slaying

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s highest court is refusing to hear an appeal for a 16-year-old boy facing charges including rape and murder in the beating death of his 94-year-old neighbor.

The majority of the justices say they don’t have jurisdiction to hear an appeal of a county juvenile court judge’s decision to try the Niles teen as an adult in the March 2015 killing of Marie Belcastro.

Police found blood throughout Belcastro’s home, about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland. Authorities say she died from a blow to the head with a blunt instrument.

The boy was 15 at the time of the slaying and had been released from a juvenile detention center the day Belcastro died.

He has pleaded not guilty.

The Associated Press generally doesn’t name juveniles accused of crimes.
