Ohio man gets 20 years-to-life in slaying of 5-year-old boy

CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland man will spend at least 20 years in prison after admitting that he fired the errant shot that killed a 5-year-old boy playing football outside his home last September.

A judge on Thursday sentenced Marlon Hackett Jr. to life in prison with a chance for parole after 20 years. He had pleaded guilty to one count of murder with a gun specification.

Prosecutors say Ramon, who had just started kindergarten, was fatally shot outside his Cleveland home in a drive-by shooting. They say Hackett intended to shoot at another man who was outside that day.

Three other men who were in the car have pleaded guilty to various charges and await sentencing.
