3 indicted in Ohio for allegedly prostituting teen girls

CLEVELAND (AP) — A grand jury in Cleveland has indicted three people for allegedly recruiting underage girls and offering them as prostitutes on the website Backpage.com.

Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty announced the human-trafficking indictments of the two men and one woman Tuesday. He says the cases involved girls as young as 14.

A 22-year-old man and 26-year-old woman are charged with using social media to recruit girls ages 14 to 18 last year. They allegedly forced them into prostitution by using threats and intimidation. After advertising the girls on Backpage.com, the suspects arranged for them to meet clients at hotel rooms in the city.

Additionally, a 36-year-old man is charged with trafficking two 15-year-old girls, also offering them through the website.

All face multiple charges.
